My first novel by Linwood Barclay and it was a real page turner. It starts with the triple murder of the Langley family in a quiet neighbourhood in a small town and it was hard to work out which way it was going to go. Were the family of three murdered because of the father, Albert Langley's job as a lawyer or was something else going on? Everyone is puzzled as to the motive and who the killers might have been and Barclay keeps us guessing until late in the book.
I was disappointed that nothing really shocked me, including who the killer was. Linwood Barclay’s novels reminds me a lot of Harlan Coben’s novels. They typically follow a male protagonist, who is married with a beautiful wife and they have 1-3 kids. The lead has some minor faults, but overall they are your typical average nice guy.

I plan to read more of Linwood Barclay’s books in the near future. Too Close To Home is another fantastic book by Linwood Barclay. I love the way Linwood Barclay incorporates the twists and turns in his writings. Too Close To Home is well written and researched by Linwood Barclay. I love Linwood Barclay's portrayal of his characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book.
Too Close to Home by Linwood Barclay is another book that I didn't want to put down! The family returns unexpectedly, and as Derek hides in the basement, an unknown visitor shoots the Langleys in cold blood. Are the murders related to others in the area? What other secrets and lies will wreak havoc on the Cutter family and their community? If you want a fast-paced, action-packed thriller, then this isn't the book for you, but if you have read any of Barclay's other works, you know that he can create a very engaging tale filled with suspense. It was just a bit too over the top to be believable.

Too Close to Home by Linwood Barclay is just that! A tangled web of intrigue, information and misinformation; lies and secrets – and then there’s murder and deception. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and can’t quite understand why it’s been sitting on my bookshelf for over four years!

The State Department said last week he had been transferred to a prison hospital in recent weeks, but has since been returned to the penal colony where he is serving his sentence. But it’s hard to come up with good reasons that Mr. Walker would do better in the runoff than he did a month ago, even if on any given Tuesday any candidate can win.
There were also times when it felt so over described that it was as if Barclay had a word count target that he tied himself to! The book could have easily been edited down without losing any of the relevant plot details. I gave it two stars as while I didn't think it was great, I didn't hate it. For an easy crime read, with red herrings and skeletons in the closet it's okay and does what it says on the tin. I just feel there are better books out there.

A murder happens and they end up getting involved and eventually take down the killer. As a whole, I enjoyed this one almost as much, but I found it a bit convoluted towards the end. This is the second Linwood Barklay novel I've read.
Every character had a secret and most of them had multiple secrets that they all kept from their supposed loved ones! I was really disappointed as my colleagues had raved about how much they loved Linwood Barclay. I didn't connect with the characters at all, or feel any of the tension for their situation. If I'm honest I just wanted to get to the end to see if I had guessed everything right!
I like Linwood Barclay's description of the settings that allow me to imagine being part of the plot. - The lawyer could have been in the girls notebook. Yes, but this is not chewy, gory- not even in the first terrible crime at the Langley's. Which doesn't make those murders cheery reading- but there is not the tons of gratuitous violence or foul language so often found in this book. Not erudite, not savvy/clever, but extremely entertaining to the "why".
Amazingly enough, the multiple story lines, numerous characters, along with the dizzying array of leads that are all rolled together the book is not confusing or difficult to follow. TOO CLOSE TO HOME qualifies as one of the very best suspense thrillers that I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. I'd give this one 4.5 stars and would be lying if I called it anything less than excellent. Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of Too Close to Home by Linwood Barclay.
